The passion to progress the sport of snowboarding drove one athlete to risk it all. The Crash Reel tells the story of Kevin Pearce, an US Olympic snowboard gold metal hopeful, and the battle he faces after suffering a traumatic brain injury practicing for the 2010 winter games. The film documents 20 years of footage showcasing the rise of two of the most prolific snowboarders the sport has ever seen, Kevin Pearce and Shawn White. While their desire to out do each other and push the sport to new levels, it isn’t until Kevin’s tragic accident that their paths divide. A film every snowboarder must see, Directed by twice Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Lucy Walker (Devil’s Playground, Blindsight, Countdown to Zero, Waste Land, The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom).
Our very own OvRcrew rep, Paul Kim, was so touched by Kevin’s story, he pulled together this event to help raise awareness of brain trauma as an epidemic in on-snow sports. All proceeds from the evening will go to The Kevin Pearce Fund to help research, raise awareness & help support victims.
Kevin called the East Coast his home, and so many of our on-snow community friends here on the east coast have rallied to support his cause. Representing the local on-snow community, we at OvR have partnered with two of NYC’s finest shops Homage Brooklyn & Aegir Boardworks to sponsor the evening. These two shops have gone so far as to offer anyone in attendance 10% off the purchase of any helmet at their respective stores when you show your ticket stub from the event.
