We love our Burton x Chill NYC FAM! Supporting since day 1!

This is one of the many reasons why we want to share the stories of OvR Fam, Jon Gonzales & Joenelvy Ferreras, in their own words. Joenelvy came up through the Chill Program in NYC. Through access to the mountains, he found a passion many of the OvR Community find in the mountains. If you’ve been out with us, it’s likely you may have been on this bus with Jon, Joenelvy, or both of them as they are always out there with us.

Now, as the Chill Foundation Program Coordinator, Joenelvy is giving back to the very community that brought him to the snow. Help us support our guys. Support the community that supported them and all the kids out there who don’t know it yet, but also need their ticket to the mountains. We’ll be co-hosting Chill Foundation Fundraisers with a series of OvR x Burton Snowbus trips and in-store events as a part of our Chillin’ at Burton fundraiser gatherings.

Chill NYC Program Coordinator Joenelvy Ferreras grew up in the Bronx. Always looking over his shoulder, skipping class, and getting into trouble. When a high school teacher asked if he wanted to shred—he had no idea how much his life was about to change. In this episode, Joenelvy sits down with his good friend Jon Gonzales to talk about the effect snowboarding had on his character and his drive to help other inner-city kids get a chance at a new life through the sport.

Where would you be without snowboarding?

That’s a tough question for us to answer… Snowboarding has changed the lives of so many of the awesome members of the OvR community in measures beyond measurements. Access from the city to the mountains has been the mission of OvRride since it’s incarnation. Without snowboarding there would be no OvR and without Jake Burton Carpenter, there would be no snowboarding. In the founding of the Chill program, Burton has helped bring that access, the shred community and all the stoke that comes along with it to the underserved youth of NYC, as well as all across the country.

In Jake’s memory and in thanks to all he’s given our community, we are re-dedicating our focus to help support the Chill program right here in our own backyard. It’s something that meant a lot to Jake and for good reason. We can empower so many of those who deserve better than the hand they’ve been dealt; youth from the tough neighborhoods right here in our own community. Help harness the power of positive energy and the special elevated community that snowboarding has given us. Come out to a Chillin’ at Burton event, catch up with our snow loving family and help pay it forward to underserved youth in the Chill NYC program. Details for our first event of the snow season at the Burton shop coming soon for Wed evening Dec. 15th.

Through our series of events and fundraising efforts, we are targeting to raise enough to cover the entire cost of transportation for Chill NYC’s winter!

We’re going to be raffling off Burton gear, OvRride trips, and making plans to hit the mountains all winter long. Bring your board out to Burton NYC for any of the upcoming in-store gatherings and we’ll hook you up with a wax. Grab a drink from one of our awesome partners. Get hooked up with a sick deal on gear. Connect with other riders and skiers. All this while raising money for a great cause!
