We love MT Bachelor so much, we’re expanding our Oregon trip this year to span The OvR Oregon Trail. Experience the journey across Mt. Bachelor, Mt. Hood & local gem Hoodoo, along with all that Portland & Bend have to offer. #DONTMISSTHETRAIL
Try taking a journey by covered wagon across 3 mountain destinations, 7,177 combined ft of vertical drop, and 7,250 combined skiable acres. On the mountains will you pizza when you should french fry or will you slay pow 6+ inches deep?
While we may not be starting our adventure in Independence, MO, the OvR Oregon Trail Expedition lets you experience what the great state of Oregon has to offer!
We’ll be loading up the wagon with provisions in Portland before we hit the trail for our first stop, Mt. Hood Meadows. From there we continue the journey to Bend, OR for two days at the OvRride favorite, Mt. Bachelor. We keep on trekking to our next stop, Hoodoo Ski Area. From Hoodoo we head back to Portland to take in some sights before heading home… or settling in the Beaver State. The choice is yours!

Oregon Trail Expedition Mountains:
Mt. Hood Meadows
Mt. Hood Meadows offers some of the most spectacular skiing and snowboarding in the Northwest! The resort is close to Portland – just 90 minutes away – but delivers a big mountain experience you’d expect to travel much farther to enjoy.
From the steeps of the front side bowls to the gentle slopes of our beginner runs, Mt. Hood Meadows terrain is known for its diversity and playfulness. Voted by Oregonians for having the best cruising intermediate terrain in the state, Meadows offers more than 2,150 acres of pure enjoyment. Rising to its highest lift-served elevation of 7,300 feet, you’ll feel like you’re on the top of the world as you take in a panoramic view to the east and south.
Legendary Heather Canyon is like its own separate ski area – endlessly steep pitches of powder into the spectacular Canyon. There’s an additional 1,700 vertical feet for hikers who want to drop into the double blacks of Super Bowl above Heather, bringing the total vertical available in just one run to almost 4,500 feet.
Mt. Bachelor
With over 4,300 acres of lift-accessible terrain, Mt. Bachelor is the 6th largest ski resort in North America! Located on the eastern flanks of Oregon’s Central Cascades, Mt. Bachelor is known for its light, dry snow, diverse terrain, family-friendliness, and long seasons.
Mt. Bachelor formed as a dormant volcano between 11,000 and 15,000 years ago, and stands today as a true giant that reaches high into the Oregon sky. The dry climate of Central Oregon assures that the 462 inches of annual snowfall on Mount Bachelor is light and fluffy, perfect for carving flawless S turns or learning to ski or snowboard. The resort offers 4,300 acres of terrain, 3,365 feet of vertical drop and extremely diverse runs ranging from double black diamonds to easy green runs for first-timers. With one of the fastest lift systems in the west and the comforts of some of the best lodging with casual dinning and retail, it’s no wonder Conde Nast Travel named Bachelor one of the top 50 Ski Resorts in North America for 12 years in a row, and MSN.com ranked it in the top 10.
Hoodoo Ski Area
Hoodoo Ski Area sits on the summit of Oregon’s Santiam Pass and is Oregon’s most centrally located destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Just 44 miles west of Bend, 85 miles east of Eugene and 130 miles southeast of Portland, Hoodoo Ski Area offers more than 800 acres of terrain, 34 runs, five lifts and one of the largest tubing parks in the West. Founded in 1938, Hoodoo is Central Oregon’s original ski area and your destination for family-friendly fun in your backyard!
The ski slopes are on a big, rounded butte, with lots of wide open terrain. So whether you prefer the deep and challenging powder of Hoodoo’s backside or the finely groomed runs of the front side, the majesty of Hoodoo’s location and fun of Hoodoo’s night skiing will bring you back again and again.
