If you’re a hardcore shredder you know that Labor Day week in NYC seldom disappoints! Because for the snow-lovers, it’s not only one step closer to winter, but it also marks the start of the fall shred flick premiers and snow events! This year’s events are on the heels of hurricane Irene, which wreaked havoc on parts of upstate New York and Vermont (check out our FB page for more details.) The whole snowboard community in NYC has been eager to help out our friends up north, including OvR, by trying to organize some relief efforts. But don’t forget that supporting the community events this week is another way you can help spread the love and celebrate the sport. Here’s what you’ve got to look forward to this week.
Monday September 5, 2011:
In anticipation of the premier of the flick “Art of Flight,” Quicksilver is hosting a signing from 1pm-2:30pm featuring Travis Rice, Pat Moore and John Jackson.
Tuesday September 6, 2011:
The whole “AofF” team will be at Paragon Sports between 6pm-9pm to show Asymbol Gallary’s LTD Flight Photo Collection. Who will be there you ask? Travis Rice, Pat Moore, John Jackson, Mark McMorris, Nicolas MÜller, Mark Lsnvik, Jeremy Jones, Jake Blauvelt, DCP, Scotty Lago, Ero Nimela…. OK, OK, I’ll stop name dropping. It is a limited space, and you need to RSVP to ArtofFlight@ParagonSports.com ASAP if you want to get in on this.
Wednesday September 7, 2011:
The premier of what has been the most anticipated snowboard movie event since the birth of the Snurfer. The buzz behind the film “Art of Flight” is no joke, and if you’ve seen the trailer you totally understand why. The footage follows some of the world’s most elite pro’s on a two year adventure to redefine snowboarding. You’ll need tickets to get in, and if you haven’t scored them yet, start looking for anyone with a spare… you don’t want to miss this!
Thursday September 8, 2011:
I hope you cleared your day… because after the “AofF” premier and the after parties you’re going to be useless until at least 2pm. Luckily, that is perfectly in time for the “AofF” DVD launch and signing at the Quicksilver in Times Square. Travis Rice and John Jackson will be there to host till 4pm.
Later you can head to the Burton NYC store in SoHo for the Fashion’s Night Out at Burton event between 6pm -11pm. Burton‘s got PBR, Salor Jerry’s Rum and food courtesy of the famous Meatball Shop. There will be live music spinning by Stretch Armstrong, Jasmine Solano and Michael Baltra. And of course, Burton team riders are also scheduled to appear.
If you haven’t had enough, then you’ll want to check out the VideoGrass premier of “Retrospect” and “Shoot the Moon” at Draft Bar between 8pm-11pm. VG is no slacker when it comes to snowboard videos; if you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and check out the freestyle heavy trailers. Then check out the premier. The movie makers and the riders will be on hand mingling with the NYC locals.
So there you have it folks, fun packed week of snowboarding to get you good and ready for the season. Stay tuned for more events and information about the OvR’s Hurricane relief efforts.
